Galicia: Literary and Historical Approaches to the Construction of a Jewish Place

Group Reunion

Event date: July 13 - July 14, 2016

    Alan Mintz (Jewish Theological Seminary)

The conference, which brings together scholars who participated in last year's research group on this topic, will be largely devoted to the works of two figures: Joseph Perl, the many-sided maskil, who was active as an educator, reformer and satirist, and S. Y. Agnon, who made his Galician origins a creative font of his writing.  In addition to scholarly papers, there will be a session devoted to a collective reading and interpretation of the story "Buczacz," which is the first story in A City in its Fullness and presents an important myth of origins.
