Transportation in Jerusalem

It is fairly easy to get around Jerusalem using public transportation. City buses run frequently, and cost 5.90 NIS (ticket may be bought from the driver, in cash). There is also a light rail that runs east-west through the city, and also costs 5.90 NIS per ride. Train tickets must be bought beforehand at the kiosk at the station, and can be paid for using cash for credit card. The ticket must then be validated upon entry to the train. Google maps is a good tool to check bus and train options: https://www.google.co.il/maps/@31.7963186,35.175359,12z?hl=en

Public transportation does not run on Shabbat (sundown Friday evening until sundown Satruday evening)

Taxis are reasonably priced and may be hailed on the street, or ordered ahead of time. The Gett taxi app works well in Jerusalem, or you can call a cab company such as Gilo Taxis: 052-3456702

Restaurants and Bars

Most restaurants in Jerusalem are kosher, meaning they will either serve meat or dairy, and will be closed on Shabbat. If you're really craving a cheesburger, there are un kosher restaurants (also open on Shabbat)

Azura - Middle Eastern food, located in Mahane Yehuda market. Kosher

Tel Aviv Bar - Burgers, fries and drinks. Located on Ben Shetach street 2. Non kosher

Beer Baazar - Israeli craft beers, light food options. Located in Mahane Yehuda market. Kosher

The Gatsby Bar - Artisan cocktails, light food options. Located on Hillel street 18. Non-kosher
