The Legitimization of Modern Criminal Law, International Conference

Event date: June 5 - June 7, 2016

Antony Duff (The University of Stirling)
    Alon Harel (The Hebrew University)
    Miri Gur-Arye (The Hebrew University)

Contemporary systems of criminal law face a double crisis of legitimacy: first, that many of those who are subject to the criminal law do not regard it as authoritative; and second, that it is not clear whether it can plausibly claim the authority that it needs. This conference aims to deepen our understanding of these legitimacy crises and to explore ways of responding to them. The issues to be discussed in the conference include, among others, criminal law and multi-culturalism; legitimacy and criminal justice; criminal law and moral panic; and the criminalization of sexual abuse in authority relations.

Lectures will take place at the the Belgium House, Edmond J. Safra Campus, Givat Ram

Afternoon lectures on June 6th  will take place at Elath Hall, The Center of Rationality, Feldman Building, 2nd floor, Edmond J. Safra Campus, Givat Ram
